MIXMASTER Tee+Fur

KATE MOSS for i-DWinter 2010 by Alasdair McLellan VIA FASHION GONE ROUGE

I am not the biggest fan of shaggy furs because I always think  they look too hairy. The white shaggy fur with the tee however looks amazing and softens the look out really well.  I especially like the heather grey with the black fur. The slouched up sleeves are a perfect finishing touch to a relaxed but polished look.

Denim Shirts Forever

I am not tiring of denim shirts. Tucked in with chunky jewelry this look is pure Americana perfection.

Duck Boots for Fall

VIA SARTORIALIST

I love mixing looks. Feminine and Masculine, undone and polished, and especially functional and feminine!  The duck boot is a classic practical fall item. The boots look very fresh and bring a fall look to the white pant in the image above. I prefer a bit of a heel so when I saw these boots from Tommy Hilfiger I knew they were a must!

Return of Tom Ford

VOGUE DECEMBER 2010

UK HARPER'S BAZAAR JANUARY 2011

Tom Ford returns to womanswear!  Always one  to make a change, he is bringing formality back.  He  would prefer to be called Mr. Ford. He is not releasing images of his collection a nano second after the collection is shown.  He mentions how his clients would rather not wear something they have already seen on the red carpet. In our celebrity obsessed fashion era this is a new perspective.

Fish & Mercury

IMAGE BY IRVING PENN FOR VOGUE, 1993

For the longest time I have been actively trying to eat more fish. Fish is often touted as one of the most heart healthy things to eat.  We often hear about the benefits of the Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and how beneficial this essential fatty acid is.

I really enjoy eating sashimi and sushi and would always look forward to going for as a healthy treat.  So when my non- sushi eating friend told me she has very high mercury levels, I thought it may be a good idea to get my mercury level checked. As I do not eat fish everyday, and probably on average would have about 3 times a week, I didn't think my mercury level would be too high. Turns out it was.

I am completely off eating fish and seafood for a month and will have my levels retested to see if I can decrease my mercury level without chelation

The NY TIMES  did a story examining the levels of mercury found in tuna from some of my most favorite NY restaurants and stores. Data from this article shows that  tuna tested from  restaurants contain more mercury than tuna sold in stores as tuna used for sushi is often from bigger fish..  I will never look at sushi the same!

UPDATE: After 40 days of being off fish my blood level of mercury  dropped significantly to within the normal range. I am now only eating low level mercury fish 1-2 a week.

All buttoned up with a bow

Photos of Bianca Jagger always serve as great fashion inspiration. She is a true style icon. Here she mixes some of my current fashion obsessions:

1. the menswear tuxedo shirt and jacket,
          2. tone on tone dressing with the white jacket and shirt
            3. the buttoned up shirt!
She finishes the look off with a bow and aviators, classic and stunning.

Sophia Loren looking coquettish in a button up, tied with a bow.  That top hat really plays up the look well.
Here J. Crew my favorite retailer for accessible style, is selling an adorable check shirt with the buttoned up look. Bow not included, but definitely finishes up the look perfectly.  Shirt can be bought here.

Steve Jobs Quotable

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things.

Conservative Collar

  VOUGE ITALIA
With this strong jacket, I especially like the buttoned up blouse.  This is a lot of look, but demonstrates how well the conservative and prim blouse offsets that ferocious leopard. Will be posting more of my new favorite neckline.

Acqua Panna

My new favorite brand of drinking water is Acqua Panna.   Information on the quality control process and water analysis can be found here .
I really like the taste and that it is offered for sale in glass bottles.  I am concerned  about the BPA's found in plastic bottles. An interesting study in the  Harvard Public Health Review may be found  here .

Charlotte's Web

CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA
Minerva Laser Cut Satin Tie Booties

So  excited to get these, I just ordered them from  Farfetch from the  ZAINEB boutique on Melrose in LA. There are so many aspects to this bootie that make these a must! From the 3" platform front, to the open lattice laser cut design and satin bow these seem delicate and feminine while maintaining the bootie shape. Also think black suede  softens the look up a bit.  The Minerva in Patent has a fiercer look. I have been seeing Charlotte Dellal everywhere recently,I look forward to owning one of her designs!

Major Leopard Inspiration

Photographed by Genevieve Naylor, 1949

This photo is beyond inspirational.  From the super chic leopard cap and  massive clutch to the perfect red lip and nails. The bracelet and that coat! The gorgeous colour, lapel and gathering at the back. How genius is the boldness of the cap with the delicate drop of that earring. 1949 never looked more fresh and current. Stunning.

Salted Caramels

I have been looking for a great salted caramel in the US for a while now.  I cannot resist them. I find 1 or 2 to be so satisfying
that I don't feel too indulgent about having them.
The best caramels  I have come across stateside are from Béquet, based out of Bozeman, MT.
I recommend their  Gourmet Celtic Sea Salt® Caramel.

Taking the salted caramel to another level with chocolate, is Fran's Chocolates based out of Seattle,WA. http://www.franschocolates.com/home.php
I am apparently late on my discovery of this brand as Amazon already has: Amazon

Jimmy Choo Wheel

I am beyond in love with the shape of this shoe.   I am waiting for it to be back in stock in black or the leopard above.  I can't believe I am not tiring of leopard this season! This is a good one.
